  1. I think so! As Suraksha says, you just have to let him live.

  2. For both, I hope so, too. But it's a phenomenal victory, no matter what.

  3. oh yea, he just did. He's just got the "living upto it" part left.

  4. Exactly.

He's promised a lot. Considering he's a politician, that goes without saying. What we will have to wait and watch is whether our blue-eyed boy (literally) will actually execute. He's got an economic crisis, a "planet in peril", innumerable issues of all shapes and sizes and a very subversive foreign policy to 'change'. There's hope, because he does show promise and spirit, but right now that's all we've got.

PS: I haven't read up on this enough, can somebody tell me - on the basis of his projection in the past 21 months, is he good for India?

  5. @ Vini

To answer your question,a resounding NO.

He plans to cut outsourcing jobs, get involved in Kashmir to help Pak focus on Afg, confront Russia which is India's friend, restrict global warming which will hamper India's growth and last but not least "talk to" petty dictators in the middle east which might just fuel extremism even more and affect a hindu-majority country like India.

Those are facts that i just stated, and cant be debated.

  6. Yes, i agree with anon about the outsourcing stuff. He IS planning to cut outsourcing so the job scenario is affected. But the others need not affect india. It might but not necessarily

  7. Will get back to this with more facts. Thank-you, A.

  8. No, he isn't good for India. That is certain. If good means the way Bush has been dealing with us till now. He's been giving us a lot of leeway, but look what Bush did to the rest of the world.

    @ anon:

He intends to focus on Pak himself. And he hasn't directly said that he is going to CUT outsourcing jobs. He was only questioning their credibility. The real problem lies with him and the nuke deal. Pressure from the democrat party might make him (mostly WILL) change the rules of the deal.
But then he's democrat, and Bush was republican. You cannot expect things to be the same.

  9. Bush favored India alright. But, question : If changing nuclear policies toward india would(might) help the world, then should we still be skeptical about it?

And Vini, straight-dope the one you were talking about?

  10. What I want to find out is how much and whether cutting down on outsourcing jobs is going to hurt India in the future. It will, that is definite, but considering the recent spate of development among our own industries, our growing economy, currency robustness and other factors (including the small but significant statistical evidence for the reverse brain-drain) what I want to know is if job-creation is happening in our own country as well, will we still have to depend on other countries for jobs?

It's a fact that companies which are outsourcing their jobs are also looking at other cheaper countries, say the ones in South-East, like the Philippines. It's also a fact that we have a population that is running in billions, so we're still a hot-spot for outsourcing companies, specially in small towns. But I'm not sure how long we're going to retain our position when a. Obama definitely plans to cut down on outsourcing jobs and b. our own economy and industry has begun opening opportunities. Since getting statistical data is taking me a little while, I'll get back with it later, because all this is just based on a hunch I got yesterday at around 2:30 am while reading poetry :D

Yep, StraightDope it is. Check out the site, specially StraightDope Classics.. Cecil is wickedly intelligent, through and through.
