God versus Mortal

For all of Ayn Rand's hyperbole on human ability, it's strange that she never said a word on sports.

  1. I've been following a few threads and blogs.. led to yours and this post struck nothing short of the bloggasm of a long enacted foreplay of words: You, Sharanya, people in NYC and most notably, Anonymous... The coital verbal acts also led to my home town: Nagpur... Was pleasantly surprised..

Much discussed was Ayn Rand. Are you guys doing a course in literature? Why else then the 63 page analysis?

And yes, come to think of it: yeah.. quite a surprise Rand said nothing of sports and excellence in a discipline so complete and demanding...

  2. Yes, Sharan and I are doing a course in literature; in fact, we're planning to whip cream too - we've decided to major in Literature.

The 63 page analysis was a paper written by three friends - Sharan, Sonal and me. It's a part of a(/n extremely taxing but quite satisfying) college program, which exposes you to research, dissertation and all kinds of white-haired academic pursuits. And yes, before you ask, the topic was chosen, not given.

    *chuckles*

  4. Um i hope i hope i don't sound like a dumbo since u hav already prepared a 63 pg thesis on rand ..but as far as i know rand is concerned with capitalism so her focus on human ability is naturally restricted to the economic sphere and sports isn't xactly economy tho its a virtual mint. neways blogrolled u ..its jus as roshni said ..u write well. :)

  5. Writing a 63 page analysis doesn't give my team-mates and I a hold on her ideology ;) Unlike Rand, we accept the fact that we can err.

One of her major thrusts, yes, was Capitalism. But human ability in terms of achieving happiness (and that being the sole purpose of one's life) was also an important issue raised by her. That's what I'm talking about here. I guess this idea is a little more abstract than Capitalism, since it's also about happiness and the purpose of life. It's an interesting point you raised.

  7. Vinne,

This is Angelo from Final Haven blog. First of all, I'm so sorry for this terribly late replay on my behave. I rarely check the comments on the About section and truthfully didn't see it until today. I'm glad you didn't wait for my replay to post the picture, because, to be honest, I have to right of that picture. I believe that I found it in Nadal's website or one of his several fan sites.

In any case, I appreciate your comment and the level of integrity you possess and again sorry for the late replay. Don't be a stranger, you are most welcomed in my blog ;)

  10. Valeria,

Thank you. I remember writing this post, and the time I wrote this more than ever these days, since we're all working on our last paper under this program. The Rand paper was a beautifully horrendous experience.. emotionally, academically, spiritually. An experience, I can say with deep confidence that I will never forget. Damn, time is a strange creature. :)

My first response to reading this blog again was, seriously, a post on parenting - that was what I last posted about? I can't help but ...
